What is refamulating?
First of all, it’s a new word we made up.
It’s also the name of our podcast and this online community, which both explore different ways to make a family.
The nuclear family - a heterosexual couple in their first marriage with 2+ kids - is no longer the dominant family structure. In fact, there is no one dominant family structure.
Refamulating looks like many things: being unmarried, having babies via science, having babies with outside help like egg donors or surrogates, and not having kids at all! We believe anyone can be your family as long as they feel like family.

Meet the team
Julia Winston is the host of the Refamulating podcast and contributor to the newsletter. In 2022, she donated her eggs to a gay, male couple so they could have kids. She is a known donor to the kids, and proudly has the title “Fairy Godmother”.
Claire McInerny is the Executive Producer of the Refamulating podcast and contributor to the newsletter. She is a professional podcast producer and writer.
